Rainbow Honey has a trio out for this year's Halloween and I was graciously sent the three to review so... here they are!
The inspiration for the collection is drawn upon Japanese mythological creatures. Not something I am familiar with but it does sound very cool.
Kitsune. Three coats. Camel with heavy gold shimmer and orange, gold and copper glitter. I've seen this one pull quite yellow on others. It almost looks like a nude on me. Not something I'd usually go for but it worked surprisingly well with my skin. On an additional note, a kitsune is a nine-tailed fox... anyone else jump straight to this?
Kawako. Three coats. Deep denim blue with bright blue shimmer and silver flaky-microglitter. There were also large opalescent flakes which I actually did not warm to. I couldn't really spot them on the nail and they made application a little clumpy.
Oni. Three coats. A black base filled with gold flaky-microglitter and red/purple shimmer. Reminiscent of OPI Holiday Glow. I loved that one and I love this one - it's totally up my alley and my favourite of the three. I especially love how heavy those mini gold flakes are.
The Yokai is limited edition for Halloween 2012. Rainbow Honey is available here.
i have to tell you that you make me want to own everything you swatch. i don't know how you do it but everything you put on looks appealing to me. swear that i honestly think kitsune looks like vomit in every other swatch i've seen, but on you it looks radiant and beautiful.
ReplyDeleteKitsune, with a bit more top coat, would be the only one I want out of this. I really like the shimmer in that one. But I am on a big fine gold shimmer kick so :P
ReplyDeleteThese are all pretty, I actually especially like Oni
ReplyDeleteI also like Oni the best of these 3... kitsune not for me, but I love the idea of it, if that makes sense(?)
ReplyDeleteyes. i immediately thought about pokemon.
ReplyDeleteI'm eagerly awaiting mine! But being in Australia I doubt I'll have them for a couple of weeks still :( I love that you managed to capture the gold shimmer in Kitsune, I hadn't seen that in anyone else's photos and I didn't even know it had a shimmer!
ReplyDeleteKawako looks so gorgeous, Shame about the annoying pieces!
ReplyDeleteJazz x
The first one looks the most original by far.
ReplyDeleteOni is my fav' too, I am a sucker for these goldtoned shades!
ReplyDeleteI love the way the first one looks, but I've had such a bad experience with RH polishes. How was the application?
ReplyDeleteI've always love asian folklore so I fell for this collection immediately. Color-wise, Oni is my fav <3 Kawako would be next but pity about the application :( I love how Kitsune looks on you!
ReplyDeleteThe first set of pics reminds me of thanksgiving. It'd be a beautiful basecoat for a turkey & cranberry theme.
ReplyDeleteAw such a cute idea!
ReplyDeleteIt wasn't too bad. A little difficult to get stop them poking out especially around the cuticle. I've read other reviews and other people don't seem to have that problem... so maybe it's just me haha
ReplyDeleteAw no :( What issues have you had? Kitsune was fine application wise. Nothing noteworthy... maybe slightly thick (which I liked).
ReplyDeleteYup! Love those suckers
ReplyDeleteDefinitely unique as colours go!
ReplyDeleteThanks Jazz!
ReplyDeleteYeah, it took ~2 weeks to get here. Though I'd say that'd be about average for stuff from the US. Thanks for the lovely compliment!
ReplyDelete\o/ Gotta catch em all and all that jazz :)
ReplyDeleteOf course! It's definitely not everyones colour that's for sure
ReplyDeleteThank you Kristy!
ReplyDeleteGOLD SHIMMER EVERYWHERRRE
ReplyDeleteOh wow! Thank you! That's such a huge compliment coming from you... yaknow, because you have perfect nails and all....... :D
ReplyDeleteheh! I think I will still give these a shot when my local etailer stock them ;) Can't resist lol!
ReplyDeleteI have 5 from the Equestria collection an all of them have a horrible, goopy, sticky formula. They seem to get worse with age. It makes me sad cause they look so awesome in the bottle!
